Clockwork Angel: Cassandra Clare

One of the books that both Amanda and I have read recently is Cassandra Clare's Clockwork Angel. We were both excited to read this book as it takes place in the Shadow Hunter world that we both fell in love with in the Mortal Instruments Series. I enjoyed the book enough to have it read in a matter of days, but there was something lacking in this book compared to her Mortal Instruments trilogy-and the something missing wasn't incest, I definitely didn't miss that! I had fun with the story being told, yet I wasn't pulled into it like I am with so many other books. The problem for me was the characters, I just didn't feel like I got to know any of them-even the main "love interests", Jem and Will. I fell in love with Jem, he is an amazing character and one that I think could have had more story time. Will, the obvious love interest for the swooning teenage girl that still finds angst attractive (a' la Edward), was an interesting character that didn't really get to develop. I didn't understand the books name sake the 'clockwork angel' felt like an obscure after thought. At the end of the book, I was left wanting more incentive to read the next two books in this series. I will read them and I am sure that I will enjoy the next installment, I just wont be counting down the days until it is released.

  1. I just finished reading this yesterday! I feel the same way about something missing! Amanda and I were just talking about this this morning and I hear that you have been making fun of me for likeing Will but lets be honest here I always go for the bad boy type and the hard to get one and that would be Will all the way ;)

  4. See I agree with both of you to a degree, I am still looking forward to reading the next one because I fell in love with all the characters except Will and he is the one I am suppose to be rooting for and I don't really care what happens to him. In my opinion she made him to cold, to mean, to negative, and didn't give him any redeeming qualities.

  6. See this is what Kylee and I were talking about earlier. He is the sexy one but I think Jem is to. And he is sweeter, but besides that I still loved it and would so read it again.

  7. I thought it was a good book, but it needs to be a companion of the Mortal instruments series I don't know that it could have stood on it's own. That said, I still liked it, I guess I just wanted more! (needy reader)

  9. Haha Cyndi and I where talking about that! And I think kylee and I did to! And I agree, she should have givin us a little more but I think she thought 'hey I let them know what happened to Jem, that's enough for this book.' But not at all!

  10. I totally agree with you Amanda. I feel like since she let us know about Jem it felt like he was the character we got to know the most. So, I think telling about the other characters more we would have been more pulled in by them.

  11. Ya I feel like you didn't get to know everyone else. It was kinda like she told us one thing about everyone and thought that was enough. Like sophie working for an ass and she got kicked out, or thomas and Will used to be friend, or henry and his crazy inventions never working, that is all you know about the characters! Just one thing! No I want to know more about these people I'm suppose to care about.

  13. I told you that it was amazing!! And don't you agree it could NEVER be a movie!! Anyway I can't really tell you what its about yet but I can tell you that Holly Black is a little morbid of a writer.

  14. I agree with you about Holly Black, but I think she tries to be overly morbid to make up for the fact that she started out with the cute little spiderwik cronicles :) I haven't read White Cat yet, but her Tithe, Valiant, Ironside books were dark, 1st and 3rd were enjoyable, but the 2nd was too dark for me. Oh and why are we talking about the Hunger games on Clockwork Angel's page lets start a new post for the Hunger Games! I could go on, and on about those ;)
